As we age, the fat compartments of our cheeks deflate, resulting in hollowing of the anterior cheek, soft tissue decent and an increase in the naso-labial folds, marionette lines and jowls. This can make the person look permanently tired and unhappy. Also the retaining ligaments, which support the fat compartments, become lax resulting in the fat compartments dropping and appearing heavy along the jawline.
Dermal fillers can be used to replace this lost volume in the cheeks. This has a lifting effect on the mid and lower face and supports the cheek tissues to give a more youthful appearance. This is sometimes referred to as ‘The Liquid Facelft’.
“Thank goodness I found Dr Hallam, with his skill and professionalism he has given me back my confidence, I trust his advice totally and can face the world with a happy and more radiant glow.”
We use a Restylane product that has a firmer, yet soft consistency, which will give the support required in the cheeks area.
In cases where there is a deficiency of collagen, we may use a collagen stimulator filler product called Ellanse®. This will give a similar degree of lift but the results tend to last longer because there is an on-going stimulation of collagen
Dr Hallam is highly experienced in this type of treatment because it is so often the first area to show signs of ageing. He usually prefers to use a cannula with minimum entry points (generally just one on each side) so that there is minimum trauma to the soft tissues. A topical anaesthetic cream or a tiny amount of local anaesthetic is used at each entry point and so there is very little discomfort.
There is no downtime, though some patients may experience some initial swelling and tenderness and occasionally some slight bruising. This normally settles within a few days.
The results will be noticeable immediately. Depending on the product used, the results will last for up to 2 years.
