The most common reason that people attend our clinic is to address signs of ageing. This can include lines and wrinkles, poor skin health, loss of the youthful facial contour of the cheeks, skin laxity resulting sagging and folds around the mouth and jowls.
Our philosophy is to carry out a full assessment and Dr Hallam will recommend an ideal treatment plan to address the patient’s concerns.
Dermal fillers are one of the most popular treatments available. They are used to smooth lines and wrinkles, restore the youthful contours of the cheeks and mid-face, elevate the brow, smooth tear troughs (the dark shadows below the eye, which make the person look tired) and to enhance the lips.
Dermal fillers can also be used to treat irregularities such as an uneven nose profile (a non-surgical nose job) and improving the profile and contour of the jawline and chin. They can also be used to rejuvenate the back the hands.
Following a full facial assessment, Dr Hallam is able to use dermal fillers injected at specific positions to give support and contour to the tissues resulting in an overall lifting effect to restore a more youthful but natural appearance. This is sometimes referred to as ‘The Liquid Facelift’.
“The results are fantastic and the treatments are carried out by highly professional, skilled and delightful people. Botox and fillers are wonderful and make me feel so much better about myself. No-one has ever commented that I have had obvious ‘work’ done, they just say how well I look and compliment me on my complexion.”
There are various types of dermal fillers, the most commonly used being hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a natural part of our skin and maintains hydration, but as we age we cannot replenish it as quickly and so the skin becomes thinner and less elastic. This leads to loss of collagen and elastin.
Dermal fillers are a non-animal, stabilised form of hyaluronic acid and are used to smooth lines and wrinkles and improve hydration, and to lift and support the tissues where shape and contour has been lost.
The other type of fillers are collagen stimulator fillers, such as Ellanse®, which are used to lift and contour the face and they last longer by maintaining stimulation of new collagen.
Dermal fillers last for 7-9 months, sometimes longer, depending on the area treated and the type of filler used.
Collagen stimulator fillers last for up to 2 years
The type of filler chosen will depend on an assessment of the patient, the patients’ concerns, the area treated and the purpose of the treatment.
The needle used to inject the filler is very fine and we reduce the injection points to a minimum by using a blunt cannula where possible. Sometimes the whole face can be treated by using as few as 4 injection points on each side. Anaesthetic cream or a tiny amount of local anaesthetic may be used. Some patients may experience a little stinging sensation while the filler is being injected but this is reduced by the small amount of local anaesthetic contained in the product.
