One of the main signs of ageing is skin laxity, which results in sagging of the mid-face, an increase in the naso-labial folds and folds below the corner of the mouth and jowls
Frequently when we look in the mirror, we lift the skin in the cheek and jaw upwards and realise how much younger it makes us look. Using the Silhouette Soft thread lift technique we can achieve just that!
Unlike more invasive surgical facelifts, this latest technique developed in the USA is a non-surgical technique for tightening and lifting the skin of the brow, cheek, jawline and neck using resorbable sutures.
The results last for 18 months – 2 years

“Silhouette Soft thread lifts are a non-surgical treatment for addressing skin laxity, which results in a sagging of the skin of the mid-face, folds below the corner of the mouth and jowls. It is an alternative to a surgical facelift, with the associated risks and recovery time. It results in a subtle lift to the jawline and lower face and a recontouring of the cheeks.”
Very fine sutures, made of Poly-L-Lactic Acid, are inserted in the subcutaneous tissue just under the skin. The sutures are totally resorbable, biocompatible and biodegradable. They incorporate tiny cones, which give anchorage to the skin and enable an immediate lifting effect when the skin is tensioned. The poly-lactic acid subsequently stimulates the fibroblasts to produce collagen, which results in a further lifting effect.
Gradually over a period of about 12-15 months the sutures are resorbed, but the band of collagen remains so that the lifting effect is maintained for 18 months or more.
The most common areas treated are the mid-face and jawline, but the neck and brow can also be treated.
An immediate lifting effect is achieved and this will improve further due to collagen stimulation. The results last for about 18 months and sometimes longer.
A small amount of local anaesthetic is given at each point of entry and exit. There may be a little discomfort when the skin is being tensioned but otherwise most patients find that the treatment is not painful.
The treatment takes about an hour, but we always allow longer so that a full analysis can be carried out before the treatment is started.
There will be some redness due to inflammation, which lasts for a few hours and also a little dimpling and puckering of the skin, usually towards the hairline. This usually resolves after 5-7 days. There is also a risk of bruising which may last for up to a week. Cold packs may be applied to reduce this.
Make-up should not be applied for the first 24 hours. It is important to avoid excessive facial expressions for a week and sports for up to 2 weeks and, if possible, to sleep face up, elevated on pillows for 3-5 nights.
Yes. It is often necessary to consider the whole face in order to achieve a natural harmonious result. It is often ideal to combine Silhouette Soft treatment with dermal fillers to restore lost volume in the cheeks and to smooth folds around the mouth and along the jawline.
