What is Botox?

It’s an injectable known for helping ‘relax’ the muscles, achieved through weakening the signals from the nerves. This helps to soften lines and wrinkles, and cause them to appear less noticeable when smiling, frowning and doing other facial expressions.

Is Botox safe?

Yes, it’s safe – and popular! In fact, in many countries, it’s one of the leading aesthetic treatments. It’s also highly successful at treating a range of concerns, which we’ll go into in more depth.

What can Botox treat?

It’s best-known as a facial aesthetic treatment, targeting concerns such as fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes, across the forehead and between the brows.

But, Botox can also help with medical concerns. Of these, hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), bruxism (teeth grinding) and cephalgia (migraines) are the most common. It works in a similar way to treating lines and wrinkles – by inhibiting nerve signals.

What about results?

It depends what you’re treating. Lines and wrinkles – the most popular treatment choice – sees results develop in a matter of weeks, and last for anywhere from 3-6 months (though this does vary from person to person). Best of all, Botox usually only takes around 10-15 minutes.

What else should I know?

There are some side-effects common from Botox treatment, such as slight swelling, tenderness and redness. To help prevent this, it’s best not to touch the area after treatment. We also recommend sleeping without putting pressure on the treated area, and while light exercise is fine, heavy exercise should be avoided in the first 24 hours.
